Source: Waynetown Despatch Friday, July 25, 1930
Will H. Sumner, a former resident of this place, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Jennie M. Hesler, West Main Street in Crawfordsville. Mr. Sumner’s death came at 3:45 o’clock, and followed a four months illness from heart trouble.  The deceased was born in Fountain County, the son of Alva and Emily Sumner. He was seventy years of age. His early life was spent in Fountain County and for a time he operated a tailor shop in Veedersburg. Mr. Sumner lived for about twenty years in Peru, Ind., where he was identified with the Hall Clothing Co. He was also associated with the Wallace Theatre while in that city. It was during his residence in Peru that he became a member of the Third Regiment band, which for many years was one of Indiana’s well known musical organizations.  Mr. Sumner went to Crawfordsville in 1918, and since made his home with his sister there. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Elks lodges.  Those surviving him are his sister, Mrs. Jennie Hesler, and one brother, A. C. Sumner, also of Crawfordsville. Another brother, Frank Sumner, preceded him in death several years ago. Four nephews, residents of Crawfordsville, also survive. They are Fern Sumner, Russell L. Hesler, Herbert S. Hesler and Arnett Sumner, of Indianapolis.  The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at ten o’clock at the Hunt & Ratcliff Funeral Home on North Grant Avenue where friends viewed the remains until the hour of service. The Elks Lodge was in charge and burial made at the Oak Hill Cemetery. -s
